Safety Planning
(links will open in a new window)
A safety plan is a unique strategy to reduce the risks of abuse or violence which may include escaping a
dangerous situation. Each person's plan is individualized for her/his situation and may be altered at any time.
- A safety plan is a complex set of strategies and resources used to minimize abuse by the caregiver.
- Safety plans are fluid, ongoing, multi-layered and are guided by the victim/survivor and supported by the caregiver.
- Safety planning is a process, not necessarily a product.
- Care Providers are encouraged to get in contact with a Victim Advocate in your community to support you in this process. The Victim Advocate is trained and specializes in creating the Safety Plan. Contact a Victim Service Agency in your area to locate a Victim Advocate.
