Here is a review of reporting.

  • Reports may be made anonymously but we ask that you consider having your name noted somewhere in the report so that APS has a way to get back to you if additional information is needed. Ideally, your name is located in a list of other names that also have information about the circumstances of the report.
  • Call within 24 hours of having the knowledge or belief that someone has been harmed.  You may call or fax your reports to APS.  The fax number is 269-3648. We want to note again here that providing a report to your supervisor only is not meeting your duty to report.
  • As the reporter you are not expected to have all of the facts. APS does not want people to conduct their own investigation before submitting a report. There is precious time and there is potential of causing more harm and/or affecting the outcome of an investigation that APS or another agency will conduct.
  • The person who has the firsthand information about the case is who needs to be calling.  Providing a written report to someone else who then calls a report in to APS will likely have lost a lot of the information that only the first person will have.
  • These steps are very important because vulnerable adults have died as a result of a report being given to a supervisor who then could have the report sit on their desk for a few days to weeks.
