APS Caseload
- Caseload far exceeds rest of nation
- Statewide – APS has three offices, eleven caseworkers, one supervisor
- Statute allows for “designees”
APS in this state has functioned under many years of being understaffed and with too many cases. They continue to be understaffed.
- Caseload far exceeds rest of nation – the average and best practice is 35 cases per worker. In Alaska they have 100 or more per worker.
- Statewide – APS has three offices and started with 5 staff in 1996 and has continued to add staff every year.
- Statute allows for “designees” – A “designee means another state agency or community-based program, individual, or provider of supportive services that has been licensed, or authorized by agreement with the department, to provide one or more services to vulnerable adults.” This means that APS will work very closely with a person who is the designee to assist them with whatever is needed to meet the vulnerable adult's needs and within the limits of the designee.
