Additional reasons given might be:

• I didn’t see it as abusive, since that was how I was treated.
• I thought it was the alcohol (substance) that was causing the behavior and only situational.
• It’s none of my business what goes on between family members.
• Afraid of repercussions from my boss (co-worker, the person I care for).
• Everyone will know that I called.
