Abandonment and Signs of Abandonment
Statutory definition: AS 47.24.900 (1)
"The desertion of a vulnerable adult by a caregiver."
Abandonment could be when a caregiver leaves a vulnerable adult at the emergency room when the adult cannot provide any information about why he is there. Another example is when a family member leaves a vulnerable adult at the doctor's office without making arrangements for her to be picked up. An additional sign of abandonment is when the legal guardian is ignoring requests of the facilities staff that are providing care. An example of this could include the person needing clothing or personal supplies.
