Think About... Elizabeth

What options are available for either of them?

Elizabeth could benefit from some therapeutic intervention (counseling) to address her emotional needs. There is no information about whether Elizabeth has a guardian to help with decision-making but that could be something to address.

In terms of Elizabeth’s father, Adult Protective Services (APS) could intervene and do a variety of things to assist, such as offer placement into assisted living or in-home supports and services. APS needs to assess the father’s capacity to determine if the father might need a power of attorney or guardian. An agency would offer some of these options as well as report it to APS.

For both Elizabeth and her father the rest of the family needs to be engaged more actively in their care needs and decisions.
