Definition of Risk Factors

"A risk is a quality of yourself, your behavior, cognitive abilities, where you live, level of mobility, medical diagnosis or physical abilities that predisposes you to something occurring, in this case abuse."

A risk factor is an aspect of a person’s behavior, cognitive ability, community-level of mobility, medical diagnosis, or physical ability that predisposes them to a possible threat. For the purposes of this training that threat would be abuse or neglect. From this perspective, you can see that we all have risks in varying degrees. However, risk factors do not always equal being a vulnerable adult.
